AB  - Marcelin Berthlot’nun (1827-1907) doğumunun 100. Yılı, Fransa’da, arasında Maison de la Chimie’nin (Kimya Evi) kuruluşunun da yer aldığı yoğun bir program ile kutlanmıştır. Bilim dernekleri, akademik kurumlar ve hükumetler bu projeye katkıda bulunmaya davet edilmiştir. Türkiye Cumhuriyeti Maarif Nezareti, bu projeye kaynak sağlamayı düşünmüş ve İstanbul Üniversitesi ile birlikte Marcelin Berthelot’yu anmak için, Paris’teki program ile çakışacak bir toplantı düzenlemiştir. 3 Kasım 1927’de yapılan toplantının başkanlığını, Maarif Nazırı Necati Bey adına Darülfünun Emin vekili ve Edebiyat Fakültesi Reisi müderris Fuat Köprülü yapmıştır. Fen Fakültesi Kimya Şubesi profesörlerinden Ömer Şevket Öncel, Nazmi Asaf ve Marius Faillebin, M. Berthelot’nun hayatını ve eserlerini tanıtan konferanslar vermişlerdir. Fransız konsolosu, hükümetini temsilen toplantıya katılmıştır. Darülfünun Fen Fakültesi Mecmuası’nın bir sayısı (c.3, 1927) bu vesile ile Marcelin Berthelot’ya ithaf edilmiştir. Fen Fakültesi Kimya Şubesi müderrislerinden Cevat Mazhar ve Ligor Beyler, Berthelot’nun organik sentezden ısıl kimyaya, patlayıcılardan tarım kimyasına ve toprak kimyasına, fermantasyondan metabolizmaya ve kimya tarihinden simyaya uzanan ilgi ve araştırma konuları üzerine makaleler derlemişlerdir. Genel okuyucu için hazırlanmış olan bu özel sayı, İstanbul Üniversitesi’nde düzenlenen anma toplantısında dağıtılmıştır. Bu sayı, az sayıda basıldığı için genellikle bilinmeden kalmış ve kütüphane koleksiyonlarına girmemiştir. Bu nedenle, Türk kimya tarihinin bilinmeyen bir safhasını temsil etmektedir.

N2  - The centenary of Marcelin Berthelot’s (1827-1907) birth was celebratedin France with an extensive program including the establishment of the Maisonde la Chimie. Learned societies, academic institutions and governments wereinvited to contribute. The Turkish Minister of Education, together with theIstanbul University organized a conference to commemorate Marcelin Berthelotto coincide with the program in Paris. The meeting held on November 3rd 1927was chaired by Fuat Köprülü, Vice-Rector and Dean of the Faculty of Literaturerepresenting the Minister of Education Mustafa Necati Bey. The staff of theChemistry Department of Faculty of Sciences, Profs. Ömer Şevket Öncel,Nazmi Asaf, and Marius Faillebin lectured on aspects of M. Berthelot’s life andoeuvre. The French Consule générale represented his Government.A special issue of the Journal of the Istanbul University Faculty ofSciences (Darülfünun Fen Fakültesi Mecmuası, vol. 3, 1927) was also dedicatedto Marcelin Berthelot. Prof.Dr. Cevat Mazhar and Prof. Ligor Bey, from theChemistry Department of the Faculty of Sciences, compiled articles onBerthelot’s fields of interest and research, from organic synthesis tothermochemistry, explosives, soil chemistry, fermentation and metabolism, andhistory of chemistry and alchemy. The special issue aimed at a generalreadership and was distributed during the memorial conference at the IstanbulUniversity. This publication remained largely unknown due to its limitededition, and represents an interesting phase in the history of Turkish chemistry.
