Materials and Methods:The study included 1725 people over 65 years of age. Data were collected using a questionnaire including demographic information, Stanford and Epworth Sleepiness Scales and analyzed with Mann-Whitney U test. Kruskal Wallis analysis was used for continuous variables and Post Hoc Bonferroni analysis was performed to find out between which groups the difference was. Chi-square test and Spearman Correlation test were used in the evaluation of the data. Statistically, p <0.05 level was considered statistically significant. Results:Of the 1725 patients who participated in the study, 50.6% were women and the mean age was 70.6±5.7 years. It was determined that 13.2% of the participants experienced both spousal and filial loss, 14.7% experienced only spousal loss, and 15.3% experienced only filial loss. A significant correlation was found in cardiac diseases, the number of monthly falls, the number of medications used, and fatigue symptoms in individuals who experienced ’spousal and child’ loss (p˂0.05). It was found that body mass index was lower in those who experienced spousal loss and there was a significant positive correlation between the number of child loss and Epworth and Stanford scale scores (p˂0.05). Conclusion:It’s recommended that psychosocial, pharmaceutical interventions and bereavement therapies should be designed due to higher incidence of sleep disturbance and risk of cardiovascular diseases in elderly individuals experiencing loss.}, number={2}, publisher={Geriatrik Bilimler Derneği}
