The article is structured into three parts: the first part outlines the historical and ethnographic context, making an effort to understand the mentality, thematic aspects, and ideological world of rebetiko songs. The second part delves into the historical factors that contributed to the familiarity and appropriation of rebetiko by the music audience in Turkey. The final section, examines the context and manner in which the group of Tatavla Keyfi is formed. This includes a discussion of the symbolic use of the term “rebetiko” in Turkey today. The article investigates the musical choices that define the repertoire of Tatavla Keyfi ensemble through a qualitative data analysis, incorporating fieldwork and interviews conducted with three of its members. The findings shed light on the dynamics of interaction between the musicians and their audience, with a particular focus on the Tatavla Keyfi music group.
