Bu çalışma, queer kimliklerin doğrudan temsil edilmediği düşünülen anlatıları alternatif bir perspektifle ele almaktadır. Araştırmanın temel amacı, Disney’in Küçük Deniz Kızı (1989) adlı animasyon filminde Ariel’in beden dönüşümü ve kimlik keşfi sürecinin queer alegorik bir bağlamda nasıl anlamlandırılabileceğini ortaya koymaktır. KW - Alegori KW - Queer KW - Queer Eleştiri KW - Deniz Kızı N2 - Allegory, as a form of narrative that conveys meaning indirectly, offers significant potential for queer readings. This study explores narratives thought not to directly represent queer identities from an alternative perspective. The primary objective of this research is to explore how Ariel’s body transformation and identity discovery in Disney’s animated film The Little Mermaid (1989) can be interpreted within a queer allegorical context. Within this framework, we discuss how the film’s transformation and identity search can be allegorically linked to the conflicts queer individuals face with gender norms. The narrative, shaped by the characters’ body and image ideals, is examined through indicators related to gender performativity and the heteronormative order. In this context, the study utilizes textual analysis as its primary method and conducts this analysis through the perspective offered by queer theory. The film’s visual codes, lyrics, dialogues, and character representations are analyzed within the context of queer allegory, and their relationship with heteronormative norms is evaluated. This study examines the alternative layers of meaning offered by The Little Mermaid through queer reading practices and highlights the potential for such readings in popular culture texts. The analysis demonstrates that some of the film’s narrative and visual elements lend themselves to queer allegorical readings based on textual patterns. CR - Aravindhan, P. (2018).
