AB  - Bu çalışma, Van Gölü’ne dökülen en büyük akarsulardan olan Bendimahi Çayı etrafındaki insanların, inci kefali (Alburnus tarichi) ile ilgili farkındalık, tutum ve davranışları belirlemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Çalışma, Bendimahi Çayı çevresinde yaşayan yerel halkın inci kefali ve bu çayın korunmasına yönelik algılarını incelemek amacıyla yürütülmüştür. Bu kapsamda, Nisan 2024-Ağustos 2024 tarihleri arasında, 84 katılımcı ile anket çalışması yapılmıştır. Katılımcılara toplamda 25 soru yöneltilmiştir. Sorular, demografik bilgiler, inci kefali çevre farkındalığı, kaçak avcılığa yönelik tutumlar ve inci kefalinin kültürel bağlamdaki yerini belirlemeye yönelik hazırlanmıştır. Elde edilen veriler, eğitim seviyesi, kaçak avcılık tutumları ve çevre farkındalığı arasındaki ilişkileri ortaya koymak için Ki-kare testi ile analiz edilmiştir. Sonuçlar, inci kefalinin bölge kültüründe sınırlı bir yere sahip olduğunu, ancak çevresel farkındalık ve koruma çalışmalarına destek seviyesinin eğitim seviyesine bağlı olarak değiştiğini göstermektedir. Özellikle üniversite mezunlarının koruma çalışmalarına daha fazla destek verdiği, ilkokul mezunlarının ise kaçak avcılık konusunda daha düşük farkındalığa sahip olduğu görülmüştür. Çalışma sonucunda, inci kefalinin bölgesel kültürde daha fazla yer almasının, kaçak avcılığın önlenmesine ve koruma çabalarının başarısına katkı sağlayabileceği düşünülmektedir.

N2  - This study aims to determine the awareness, attitudes, and behaviors of people living around the Bendimahi Stream, one of the largest tributaries of Lake Van, regarding the pearl mullet (Alburnus tarichi). The research focuses on understanding the perceptions of local residents about the pearl mullet and efforts to protect the Bendimahi Stream. In this context, a survey was conducted with 84 participants between April 2024 and August 2024. The survey included 25 questions designed to gather information about demographic characteristics, environmental awareness related to the pearl mullet, attitudes toward illegal fishing, and the cultural significance of the species. The collected data were analyzed using the Chi-square test to examine the relationships between education level, attitudes toward illegal fishing, and environmental awareness. The findings indicate that while the pearl mullet holds a limited place in regional culture, environmental awareness and support for conservation efforts vary by education level. It has been observed that university graduates in particular support conservation efforts more, while primary school graduates have lower awareness of illegal fishing. The study concludes that enhancing  the pearl mullet’s cultural significance within the regional culture could contribute to the prevention of illegal fishing and the success of conservation initiatives.
