AB  - Bu eser, Clyde Weber Votaw tarafından kaleme alınmış ve 1910 yılında yayımlanmıştır. Çalışmada Votaw, din eğitimine temel olan dört temel prensip belirleyerek açıklamaktadır. Birinci ilke, din yaşamın temel unsurudur. Buna göre, din yalnızca itikadi bir olgu değildir. Yazar, bu ilkeyle dinin hayatın tüm alanlarında yaşama yansıyan bir inanç, ibadet, ahlak ve davranış bütünü olduğunu açıklamakta ve din eğitiminde de bu bütünlüğün gözetilmesi gerektiğini vurgulamaktadır. İkinci ilke, eğitim sisteminin tümünde ahlaki ve dini amaçların bulunması gerektiğidir. Dinin amaçladığı ahlaki değerlere sahip insan modelini yetiştirmede bilimsel düşünceyle iş birliği içerisinde hareket edilerek modern çağın gerektirdiği kazanımlara ulaşmanın mümkün olacağı belirtilmektedir. Din eğitiminin temelinde yatan üçüncü ilke, din eğitimi kaynakları kapsayıcı olmalıdır. Yazar, burada düşüncelerini İncil üzerinden ifade etmektedir. Ancak metin okunurken, kutsal kitaplara genellenerek, kutsal kitapların din eğitiminde yorumlayıcı bir yaklaşımla günümüz problemlerine cevap verebilecek önemli kaynaklar olduğu yorumuyla okunabilir. Din eğitiminin temelinde yatan son ilke, din eğitiminde çocuğun ihtiyaçlarının gözetilmesidir. Burada, çocuğun gelişimsel özelliklerini bilerek buna uygun eğitim içeriği oluşturulması, ahlaki-dini prensipleri telkin etmekten ziyade yaşayarak örnek olunması ve hikayelerden kıssalardan faydalanılarak ahlaki-dini davranışların öğretilmesi tavsiye edilmektedir. Çalışma, incelendiğinde din eğitiminin temelinde yatan dört ilkenin, yalnızca eserin kaleme alındığı döneme hitap etmediği, günümüzde de geçerliliğini koruduğunu ve bu durumun eseri kıymetli kıldığını söylemek mümkündür.

N2  - This paper was authored by Clyde Weber Votaw and published in 1910. In this study, Votaw identifies and explains four fundamental principles that underpin religious education. The first principle asserts that religion is a fundamental element of life. According to this view, religion is not merely a doctrinal phenomenon. He emphasizes that religious education should maintain this holistic perspective. The second principle states that moral and religious objectives should be embedded throughout the entire educational system. It is stated that achieving the values promoted by religion in shaping individuals with moral integrity is possible through collaboration with scientific thought, thereby attaining the competencies required by the modern era. The third fundamental principle underlying religious education asserts that the sources of religious education should be inclusive. The author expresses his thoughts through references to the Bible. However, when interpreting the text, one may generalize this perspective to all sacred texts, viewing them as significant sources that, through an interpretative approach, can provide answers to contemporary issues in religious education. The final fundamental principle of religious education emphasizes addressing the needs of the child. This principle advocates for designing educational content in alignment with the child's developmental characteristics, serving as a role model through lived experiences rather than merely instilling moral and religious principles, and utilizing stories and parables to teach moral and religious behaviors. Upon examination, it becomes evident that these four fundamental principles of religious education are not confined to the period in which the work was written but remain relevant today, thereby enhancing the value of the study.
