AB  - Çevre ekonomisi, çevresel sorunların ekonomik boyutlarını inceleyen ve ekonomik faaliyetlerin çevre üzerindeki etkilerini ele alan bir disiplindir. Bu alan, hava kirliliği, su kalitesi, toksik maddeler, atık yönetimi ve küresel ısınma gibi sorunlar üzerine odaklanarak çevresel etkilerin nasıl azaltılabileceğini araştırır. Avrupa Birliği (AB), tüm üye devletlerin uyması gereken çevre politikaları belirlese de, bu politikaların etkinliği büyük ölçüde ulusal ve yerel düzeydeki uygulamalara bağlıdır. Ekonomik kapasite, idari verimlilik ve politika farklılıkları, uygulamalarda çeşitliliğe yol açmaktadır. Daha zengin ülkeler, yeşil teknolojilere yatırım yaparak sürdürülebilirlik hedeflerine daha kolay ulaşırken, daha az zengin ülkeler finansal engeller ve yönetişim sorunları nedeniyle bu hedeflere ulaşmada zorluklar yaşamaktadır. Bu dengesizlik, AB içindeki çevre politikalarının uyumunu ve etkinliğini olumsuz yönde etkilemektedir. Bu bağlamda, AB üye ülkelerinin çevre ekonomisi stratejilerinin karşılaştırılması amacıyla yeni bir yaklaşım önerilmektedir. Bu yaklaşım, stratejilerin karşılaştırılmasını çevre ekonomisi açısından kritik bir öneme sahip olarak görmektedir.
