PB - Iğdır Üniversitesi WT - DergiPark SN - 2536-4618 SP - 1541 EP - 1559 VL - 15 IS - 4 LA - en AB - The aim of this study was to reveal the current status of field crop production in Mazıdağı district of Mardin province, to determine the socio-economic and demographic structure of farmers and to determine the general situation of farmers in terms of agricultural practices. The main material of the research consists of primary data obtained by face-to-face survey method with enterprises engaged in the production of field crops (barley, wheat, corn, sugar beet and cotton) in Mazıdağı district of Mardin province. Farmer interviews were held in the production period of 2023. As secondary data, statistical data of various institutions and organizations were used. The average age of the surveyed farmers was calculated as 51.09 years and the average duration of farming was 32.32 years. It was determined that the average value of the cultivated land was 228.67 da. The wheat planted area is determined as 82.52 da, the barley planted area is 79.51 da, the corn planted area is 86.07 da, the sugar beet planted area is 67.33 da, and the cotton planted area is 95 da. When we look at the yield values, it is calculated as 562.50 kg da- 1 for wheat, 436.51 kg/da for barley, 1476.76 kg/da for corn, 7166.67 kg/da for sugar beet and 390 kg/da for cotton. It was concluded that the average wheat yield and barley yield increased with the increase in parcel width. It was determined that top fertilization was carried out in almost all of the examined enterprises. The rate of sales of the products grown in the examined enterprises to the private sector was determined as 60.4% and to state institutions was 39.6%. Although 99.3% of the enterprises implement crop rotation, only 44.6% set aside seeds for planting. As a general result, it can be said that farmers growing wheat and barley have higher rates of seed separation. Increasing the education level of farmers can support rural development as well as as increasing agricultural productivity. Educated farmers can more easily adopt new technologies and methods, which can increase sustainability and competitiveness in the agricultural sector. Following the developments in the agricultural sector is of great importance in terms of increasing productivity, ensuring sustainability and gaining competitive advantage.
