In the course of the study, the responses of of 470 participants to the "Perceived Religious Influence", "Reconstructed Muslim Religious Orientation Scale," "South Oaks Gambling Screen (SOGS)," and "Gambling Participation Questionnaire" were analysed over the period from February to December 2023. The data were analyzed using multiple regression analysis and independent samples t-tests. The t-test analysis revealed that, individuals who do not participate in games of chance exhibited significantly higher levels of perceived influence of religion, and significantly lower levels of fundamental and extrinsic religious orientation in comparison with those who do participate. No significant difference was found between the two groups in terms of quest and intrinsic religious orientation. In comparison with individuals diagnosed with gambling addiction, those who do not meet the diagnostic criteria for gambling addiction have been found to exhibit significantly higher levels of perceived religious influence and intrinsic religious orientation, and significantly lower levels of extrinsic and fundamental religious orientation. No significant differences were identified between the groups in terms of quest orientation. The findings of the multiple regression analyses indicate that perceived influence of religion and intrinsic religious orientation are significantly and negatively associated with participation in games of chance and gambling-related problems. Conversely, extrinsic and fundamental religious orientation are significantly and positively associated with these behaviors. The findings suggest that perceived religious influence and intrinsic religious orientation may serve as protective factors against participation in games of chance and gambling addiction, while extrinsic and fundamental religious orientations may act as risk factors. Conversely, the quest orientation exhibited no discernible predictive capability.
