AB  - Fustel de Coulanges, XIX. yüzyıl tarihyazımı içerisinde, antik toplumların dinî ve toplumsal örgütlenmesine dair geliştirdiği özgün yaklaşımıyla öne çıkar. En bilinen eseri La Cité Antique, Eski Yunan ve Roma toplumlarını dinî ritüeller, aile yapıları ve toplumsal düzen temelinde ele alır. Coulanges’a göre, özellikle Antik Roma’da bireylerin toplum içindeki konumları, dinî uygulamalar ve aile ilişkileriyle doğrudan bağlantılıdır. La Cité Antique’de sunulan tarihsel model, yalnızca antik dünyayı anlamaya yönelik bir çaba değil, aynı zamanda XIX. yüzyıl düşünce dünyasında tarihe dair yeni bir kavrayış biçimi inşa etme girişimidir. Aile, din ve devlet arasındaki ilişkiler üzerine kurduğu yorum, dönemin siyaset-merkezli tarih anlayışından ayrılarak modern sosyal bilimlerin gelişimi açısından önemli bir entelektüel zemin sunar. Coulanges’ın tarihsel çözümlemesi, geçmişi yalnızca olayların kronolojisi olarak değil; inanç sistemleri, dini ritüeller ve toplumsal yapılar arasında kurulan çok katmanlı ilişkiler bütünü olarak kavramaya yönelik ilk adımlardan biridir.

N2  - Fustel de Coulanges is recognized in nineteenth‑century historiography for his distinctive approach to the religious and social organization of ancient societies. His most renowned work, La Cité Antique, examines ancient Greek and Roman societies through the lens of religious rituals, family structures, and social order. According to Coulanges, individuals in Ancient Rome held positions within society that were directly tied to religious practices and familial relationships. The historical model he proposed in La Cité Antique aimed not only to explain the ancient world but also to introduce a novel way of interpreting historical reality within nineteenth-century intellectual discourse. His interpretation—centered on the interrelations among family, religion, and state—deviated from the prevailing politically‑focused historiography of the era and laid an important intellectual groundwork for the subsequent development of the social sciences. Coulanges’s model of historical analysis represents a foundational effort to understand the past not merely as a series of events, but as a complex whole of intertwined beliefs, religious rituals, and social structures.
