KW - Denge KW - diz osteoartriti KW - dokulu tabanlık N2 - Interventions to improve balance in individuals with knee osteoarthritis are important in maintaining functional independence by reducing the risk of falls. In this context, approaches that increase the sensory input from the sole of the foot attract attention. This study aimed to investigate the immediate effect of lateral wedge textured insoles on balance in elderly individuals with medial knee osteoarthritis. Individuals aged 65-75 years with bilateral medial knee osteoarthritis were divided into two groups. The experimental group received textured insoles with lateral wedge and the control group received flat insoles with lateral wedge. The balance of all participants was assessed using the HUR Smart Balance System, first with and without shoes and then with shoes with appropriate insoles for their groups. In the experimental group, static balance score, proprioceptive impairment score, visual dependence score and vestibular dominant score were found to be significantly higher with insoles than with shoes only (p0.05). In the control group, no significant difference was found in all parameters between the measurements performed with insoles and the measurements performed with shoes only (p>0.05). In intergroup comparisons, statistically significant differences were found between the experimental and control groups in terms of static balance score, proprioceptive impairment score, visual dependence score and vestibular dominant score (p0.05). The use of textured insoles with lateral wedge showed immediate positive effects on balance parameters in elderly individuals with medial knee osteoarthritis. Lateral wedge textured insoles can be included in the treatment plan for medial knee osteoarthritis, especially to improve static balance, proprioception, visual dependence and vestibular control.
