According to the World Health Organization, falls, burns, poisonings and similar incidents rank among the leading causes of injury and death in children. The situation is no different in Türkiye: one-quarter of all deaths in the 1–4 age group are accident-related; only 25 % of these fatalities involve traffic, while the remainder stem largely from falls, drowning, burns and other incidents that occur at home or in play areas. These figures clearly demonstrate the need to create environments where children can grow up safely. This review examines the age groups and settings in which accidents most frequently occur and discusses the predominant injury types in light of national data. It further emphasises that planning public spaces such as parks and streets with a “child-friendly” mindset could prevent a substantial share of these incidents. Practical benefits of AI-assisted design tools—including the ability to simulate safety tests for playground equipment, rapidly identify high-risk zones and flag maintenance requirements in a timely manner—are also explored. In conclusion, employing technology as a supportive tool while placing children’s needs at the centre of urban design offers a powerful strategy for reducing accident-related injuries and fatalities.}, number={2}, publisher={Dokuz Eylül Üniversitesi}
