Methods: A total of 40 patients with active IBD (22 with Crohn’s disease, 18 with ulcerative colitis) were included. Global longitudinal strain (GLS) was measured by echocardiography during the active disease phase and after achieving remission. Strain values were compared between active and remission periods. Results: There was no statistically significant difference in GLS values between active and remission phases in the overall group or subgroups. However, strain improvement was more pronounced in female patients and non-smokers during remission. Conclusion: Although cardiac strain measurements did not significantly differ between disease phases, the findings suggest a potential impact of sex and smoking status on myocardial function in IBD. Strain echocardiography may help detect early cardiac involvement in selected patients.}, number={6}, publisher={MediHealth Academy Yayıncılık}
