Bu mənbələrdən biri də Makedoniyalı İsgəndərin Hindistan yürüşü zamanı ona qeyri-adi ölçü və keyfiyyətlərə malik itlərin hədiyyə olunması hekayəsidir. Plini və Solin bu hədiyyənin Albaniya çarı tərəfindən təqdim edildiyini yazır, Strabon, Diodor, Kurtius və Yustin isə epizodun qəhrəmanı kimi Hind hökmdarı Sofiti göstərirlər. İlk baxışda ikinci dərəcəli detal kimi görünən bu məlumat tarixşünaslıqda mühüm problemlərin müzakirəsinə səbəb olmuşdur. Əsas suallar bunlardır: Alban itlərinin şöhrəti və İsgəndərin ekzotik məxluqlara marağı eyni səhnənin müxtəlif versiyalarının formalaşmasına gətirib çıxarmışdırmı? Nəhayət, antik müəlliflərin, xüsusilə də Plininin müasirlərinin vurğuladığı kimi, hədiyyənin Hind çarı Sofit tərəfindən verilməsi faktı etibarlı tarixi sübutlarla təsdiqlənirmi? Məqalə bu sualları cavablandırmaq məqsədilə antik mənbələrin müqayisəli təhlilinə, eləcə də müasir tədqiqatların nəticələrinə əsaslanır.

N2  - A large part of the information concerning the 4th century BCE history of Caucasian Albania is based on the geographical and historical records found in the works of Greek and Roman authors. One of these sources is the account of extraordinary dogs of remarkable size and quality being presented as gifts to Alexander of Macedon during his Indian campaign. Pliny and Solinus write that this gift was offered by the king of Albania, whereas Strabo, Diodorus, Curtius, and Justin identify the Indian ruler Sophites as the protagonist of the episode. At first glance a seemingly secondary detail, this report has given rise to significant debates in historiography. The key questions are as follows: Did the fame of Albanian dogs and Alexander’s fascination with exotic creatures lead to the emergence of different versions of the same scene? Did Alexander’s route truly pass through the Caucasus? Could the leaders of Albanian tribes in the 330s BCE have held the title of “king”? Finally, as emphasized by ancient authors—particularly Pliny’s contemporaries—can the statement that the gift was presented by the Indian king Sophites be confirmed by reliable historical evidence? The article addresses these questions through a comparative analysis of ancient sources and the findings of modern research.
