N2 - Alienation occurs when a person feels disconnected from something and feels a sense of separation from it. This can be felt towards oneself, other people, or even the world in general. Alienation from one's work and the work environment also leads to work alienation. Work alienation manifests in situations such as limited interaction in the work environment, unequal and unfair attitudes, anxiety about success, monotonous tasks, loss of influence and control over work, lack of decision-making authority, unclear and unaccepted job identity, perceived meaninglessness of work, working in isolation, lack of social connections among colleagues, inadequate rewards, low status, commanding authority, and lack of access to authorized individuals. Work alienation also manifests itself in universities due to both the economic effects of globalization and increasing capitalist and neoliberal policies. The changing structure of universities over the years has also impacted the academic world, creating differences in scientific research and the professional lives of some academic staff. This study will examine the problems experienced in universities from the perspective of academics and will detail the causes of work alienation, particularly among academics working in precarious positions.
