AB  - Bu çalışma, Wangechi Mutu’nun çağdaş baskıresim sanatına katkılarını, sanatçının malzemeve teknik kullanımı bağlamında incelemektedir. Araştırmada, Mutu’nun eserlerindekullandığı kolaj, montaj ve çok katmanlı yüzey manipülasyonları üzerinden kimlik,toplumsal eleştiri ve postkolonyal söylem ekseninde çağdaş baskıresim estetiğiyle kurduğuilişkiler ele alınmıştır. Sanatçının litografi, kolografi, aquatint, monoprint ve kolaj gibifarklı baskı tekniklerini bir araya getirerek geliştirdiği görsel anlatım dili, baskıresmin estetikve kavramsal sınırlarını dönüştüren özgün bir ifade biçimi olarak analiz edilmiştir.Araştırma, sanat eserini merkeze alan sanat kuramı temelli yöntemlerle yapılandırılmıştır.Bu kapsamda, biçimsel analiz, ikonografik çözümleme ve tematik içerik çözümlemesi gibisanat tarihine özgü çözümleme teknikleri kullanılarak, Mutu’nun baskıresimleri yüzey,malzeme ve teknik çeşitliliği açısından sistematik bir çerçevede değerlendirilmiştir. Çalışmakapsamında, sanatçının eserlerinde sıklıkla yer verdiği popüler kültür öğeleri, tıbbiillüstrasyonlar ve geri dönüştürülmüş malzemeler gibi görsel unsurların, kimlik inşası vetoplumsal eleştiri bağlamındaki işlevleri çözümlenmiştir. Elde edilen bulgular, Mutu’nunbaskıresimlerinde katmanlı anlatım dili, hibrit malzeme kullanımı ve feminist/postkolonyalsöylemleri bir araya getirerek çağdaş sanat estetiğine özgün bir katkı sunduğunu ortayakoymaktadır. Araştırma, sanatçının baskıresim pratiğinin, teknik ve kavramsal düzeydesunduğu dönüşüm potansiyelini vurgulamakta; özellikle kimlik politikaları, kültürel temsilve eleştirel görselleştirme açısından baskıresmin ifade olanaklarını genişlettiğini ortayakoymaktadır.

N2  - This study examines Wangechi Mutu’s contributions to contemporary printmaking, focusingon her use of materials and techniques. The research explores how Mutu engages withthemes of identity, social criticism, and postcolonial discourse through collage, montage,and multi-layered surface manipulations in her artworks. Her visual language shaped bythe integration of various printmaking techniques such as lithography, collagraphy, aquatint,monoprint, and collage is analyzed as a unique form of expression that redefines theaesthetic and conceptual boundaries of printmaking. The study is structured using art theory-based methodologies that position the artwork at the center of inquiry. Formal analysis,iconographic interpretation, and thematic content analysis -methods specific to art history-are employed to evaluate Mutu’s prints within a systematic framework in terms of surface,material, and technical diversity. The visual elements frequently featured in her works, suchas popular culture references, medical illustrations, and recycled materials, are examinedin the context of identity construction and social critique. The findings reveal that Mutu’slayered narrative style, hybrid material use, and incorporation of feminist and postcolonialdiscourses offer an original contribution to contemporary art aesthetics. This research highlightsthe transformative potential of her printmaking practice, particularly in expandingthe expressive possibilities of printmaking in relation to identity politics, cultural representation,and critical visualization.
