AB  - Günümüzde Düzce ili, Çiftepınarlar Mahallesinde (Konuralp) bulunan Prusias kenti antik çağlardan itibaren birçok adlandırmaya sahiptir. MÖ 5. yüzyılda Kieros adıyla kurulan kent Hellenistik Dönemde Prusias pros Hypios, Roma egemenliğiyle birlikte Latince Prusias ad Hypium adıyla anılmış; Geç Antik Çağ kayıtlarında ise Prusias/Plusias olarak geçmiştir. Geç Antik Çağ’da Dioecesis Pontica bölgesinde yer alan Honorias Eyaletinin sınırları içinde kalan kentin adına MS 6. yüzyılda yaşamış coğrafyacı Hiorecles’in, Synecdemus adlı eserinde rastlanmakta; coğrafyacı eyaletin kentleri içinde (Claudiopolis, Heraclea, Tius, Cratia, Hadrianoupolis) Prusias kentini de saymaktadır. Arkeolojik ve epigrafik verilerden anlaşıldığı kadarıyla Prusias ad Hypium, Romanizasyon/Romalılaşma süreciyle birlikte birçok mimari anıtın (tiyatro, hamam, su kemerleri vb.) inşa edildiği önemli bir Roma kentine dönüşmektedir. Bu bağlamda kentte Roma İmparatorluk Döneminin izlerini takip edebilmek nispeten mümkünken; kentin geç dönem yerleşim karakterinin mimari, kültürel, sosyal ve dinsel yönlerinin belirlenmesini sağlayacak arkeolojik veriler henüz oldukça zayıftır. Buna karşın, Prusias ad Hypium tiyatrosunda son yıllarda yürütülen kazı çalışmalarında ortaya çıkarılan kemik işliği ve buluntuları ile seramikler kentin Geç Antik Çağ’ına ışık tutan veriler olarak ön plana çıkmaktadır. Bunun yanı sıra, tarihsel süreçte Hristiyanlığın bölgede ve dolayısıyla kentte kabul gören bir din haline geldiği; kentin imparatorluğun Hristiyanlaşma süreciyle paralel olarak konsillere piskoposluk düzeyinde katılımlarda bulunduğu geç dönem kayıtlarından bilinmektedir. Bu çalışmada, literatür verileri ve kazı çalışmaları sonucunda ele geçen buluntulardan hareketle, Prusias’ın Geç Antik Çağ’da genel görünümüne ilişkin değerlendirmeler sunulmaktadır.

N2  - The city of Prusias, located in the Çiftepınarlar neighbourhood (Konuralp) in the province of present-day Düzce, has borne many names since antiquity. Founded under the name Kieros in the 5th century BCE, the city was known as Prusias pros Hypios during the Hellenistic Period, Prusias ad Hypium in Latin under Roman rule, and Prusias (Plusias) in records from Late Antiquity. The city, which lay within the borders of the province of Honorias in the Dioecesis Pontica region during Late Antiquity, is mentioned in the Synecdemus of the 6th-century geographer Hierocles, who lists Prusias among the cities of the province (Claudiopolis, Heraclea, Tius, Cratia, Hadrianoupolis). Archaeological and epigraphic evidence indicates that Prusias ad Hypium developed into a significant Roman city during the process of Romanisation, when numerous architectural monuments—such as a theatre, baths, and aqueducts—were constructed. In this context, while the material remains of the Roman Imperial Period are relatively traceable within the city, archaeological data sufficient to determine the architectural, cultural, social, and religious characteristics of its later settlement phase remain limited. However, the ossuary, artefacts, and ceramics unearthed in recent excavations at the theatre of Prusias ad Hypium provide valuable evidence illuminating the city’s Late Antique period. Furthermore, records from this later era confirm that Christianity had become an accepted religion in the region—and, by extension, in the city—whose representatives participated in ecumenical councils at the episcopal level, in parallel with the Christianisation of the empire. This study presents an evaluation of the general character of Prusias in Late Antiquity, based on both the existing literature and the finds recovered during the excavations.
