TY - JOUR T1 - Duygu Yönetimi Olarak Halkla İlişkiler: Profesyonellerin Görüşlerine Dayalı Bir Kavramsallaştırma TT - Public Relations as Emotion Management: A Conceptualization Based on Professionals’ Perspectives AU - Akçay, Ebru PY - 2026 DA - June Y2 - 2026 DO - 10.16878/gsuilet.1865176 JF - Galatasaray Üniversitesi İletişim Dergisi PB - Galatasaray Üniversitesi WT - DergiPark SN - 1305-2411 SP - 115 EP - 141 IS - 44 LA - tr AB - Halkla ilişkiler disiplininin duygu körü olduğu yaklaşımından hareketle yola çıkan bu çalışma, halkla ilişkileri duygu yönetimi olarak kavramsallaştırmayı önermektedir. KW - duygular KW - duygu yönetimi KW - halkla ilişkiler N2 - Starting from the approach that the public relations discipline is largely emotion-blind, this study proposes conceptualizing public relations as emotion management. Drawing on the literature on emotional labor, emotional stakeholders and emotional crisis communication, the research examines whether this conceptualization holds in practice by collecting written responses from twenty-two public relations professionals. The findings reveal that public relations professionals play a central role in recognizing, mapping and managing both their own emotions and those of stakeholders. In this respect, the study suggests that public relations can be conceptualized as emotion management; however, it also demonstrates that emotions are positioned as a secondary and complementary element relative to rationality in strategic decision-making and evaluation processes. This points to a structural tension indicating that, despite the theoretical significance of emotions in public relations, they continue to play a limited role in practice. CR - Ahmed, S. (2004).
