KW - Kumar KW - Yasa Dışı Kumar KW - Çevrimiçi Kumar KW - İnternet KW - Sosyal Medya KW - Instagram Reels N2 - Gambling is a phenomenon that has persisted throughout human history and has been studied by various disciplines in social sciences, including psychology, sociology, and law. With the development and integration of the internet into daily life, gambling activities have taken on an online nature, eliminating the requirements for physical space and time. The rise of social media platforms has enabled the gambling industry to expand its services through various technological devices and has played a significant role in the presentation of illegal gambling activities. This research examines the presentation of illegal gambling activities through Instagram’s Reels feature. In the data collection process, 19 accounts featuring illegal gambling content were randomly selected from those recommended by Instagram’s algorithm. The three most recent videos from each selected account were identified, forming a sample of 57 Instagram Reels videos in total. The collected data were analyzed using thematic analysis through the MAXQDA 2024 qualitative data analysis program. The research identified three main themes: incentive elements, normalization strategies, and content presentation. According to the findings, individuals were encouraged to gamble through psychological motivations and attractive elements such as feelings of satisfaction, desire to win, promises of easy money, and payment demonstrations. Additionally, gambling behavior was normalized by being presented as part of daily life with a digital game perception through legitimization techniques and social acceptance strategies. Furthermore, it was observed that an attention-grabbing and interactive presentation style was adopted through narrative forms, interaction elements, and audiovisual components. Moreover, it was determined that none of the examined content included any information, warnings, or explanations regarding gambling-related risks and harms. CR - Ashley, C., & Tuten, T. (2015).
