Method: Students who studied in various health departments in Gümüshane University during 2010-2011(288 students) constitude the content of this diagnostic study. Also, without choosing samples, all population concerned is included. The number of students that is reached is 231 (Response rate: %80.2). Data has been collected through a questionnaire on students’ socio-demographic features and through Empathic Skill Scale (ESS) and Empathic Tendency Scale (ETS) which were developed by Dokmen in 1988 and, whose validity and reliability were tested by the same person. Findings: It is stated that the avarage age of students is 20.07±2.05, the point avarage of ETS is 66.07±9.50, and the point avarage of ESS is 124.10±16.58. It is ascertained that girls’ point avarage of ESS and ETS is higher than boys’ and, that the point avarage of those who have 1-3 brothers/sisters is higher than those students who have 4 or more brothers/sisters.(p <0.05). No significant difference between other diagnostic features and point avarages of scales is stated. No relationship between the points of ESS and ETS is found. Conclusion: It is stated that the empathic tendency and empathic skills of students who receive health education is medium-level. Educational and social studies aimed at enhancing this level are thought to be beneficial.
