N2  - In general terms the Second World War years constitute one of the intervals in which the government exercise pressure over the press in Turkey. The most crucial medium that the government utilised in order to exercise the pressure over the press in the interval concerned is the closure penalties due to its heaviness. Should the literature is reviewed in this respect, it is seen in various publications that some efforts were made for listing the closure penalties for the press organs by the government during the war years and owing to these lists, the extent of the governmental pressures on the press in the interval abovementioned were tried to be presented. The purpose of this study is to transcend those efforts aforementioned and to present a more comprehensive and detailed list, thus to contribute to the presentation of the extent of the pressures
