Thestudy was carried out in two groups, that each was consist of5 dogs. The investigation was carried out in two parts. In thefirst part, the anima/s in the first group were anaesthetizedwith xylazine -ketamine hydrochloride and the anima/s in thesecond group were anaesthetized with xylazine-pentobarbitalsodium. In the second part, the same anima/s usedin first partwere anaesthetized with the same anaesthetic combinations, and than experimental laparatomie was made. In the bothparts, 1-2 ml blood samples were taken from anima/s beforeanaesthesia and operation then on the 30 th, 60 th, 90 th, and120 th minutes after anaesthesia and operation. Glucose valueswere detedmined with spectophotometer. As a ~esult, 1tmay be said that pentobarbital sodium used in study has nohyperglycemic effect, but xylazine and ketarnine hydrochloridehas significant hyperglycemic effect..
