The effects of silica coating pigment in paper on physical, thermal and some mechanical properties of cellulose fiber-plastic composite were examined. The filler used in this study were uncoated cellulose, 6.68%, 12.38%, 18.21% and 24.32% mineral contented cellulose fibers. Each filler type was mixed with high density polyethylene (HDPE) at 40% by weight fiber loading. In this case, the ratio of SiO2-CaCO3 in plastic composites were calculated as 0%, 2.67%, 4.95%, 7.28% and 9.73% respectively. Water absorption and thickness swelling of fiber-plastic composites were significantly decreased with the silica and filler concentrations. With increased mineral content, thermal properties of fiber-plastic composites increased slightly. In addition, fibers and fiber-plastic composites were characterized with FTIR-ATR and SEM-EDS.
