N2  - This study investigated the metaphorical images that prospective teachers (N=2847) have on the concept of the student. Participants completed the phrase of “A student is like . . . because . . .” to indicate their conceptualizations of learner. Data was analyzed both qualitatively (i.e., content analysis) and quantitatively (i.e., chi-square). According to the results, totally 156 valid metaphorical images were identified and they are collected under 11 different conceptual categories. Significant differences are determined in the 11 conceptual themes as participants’ gender, class level, and program type. Metaphors can be used as a powerful research tool to understand the prospective teachers’ personal insights on the educational phenomena.
