Soil salinity is a principal constraint in food production.Particularly, it is a problem in the arid and semi- arid areas of the world.Recent biotechnological approaches and molecular markers technology studieshave contributed greatly to a better understanding of the genetic and molecularbases of plant salt stress tolerance. The development of molecular studies and in vitro selection technologywill provide a new opportunity to improve in salt tolerant crops. The genetic and genomic analysis of the traitsof plants can contribute to the breeding of salt tolerant crops through DNAmolecular markers associated to salt stress resistance. In this review, use of in vitro culture methods for increasing salttolerance in crop plants and also molecular marker and genetic engineeringstudies were evaluated.
