N2  - Facility location selection is one of the most challenging activities for decision makers nowadays. Whendecision makers determine the most appropriate institutions place for investment, need to assess the variousalternatives taking into account a number of criteria. There are three important stages such as selection ofthe optimal business size or production capacity, choice of the most suitable production technology orproduction methods, and the choice of the most suitable facility location selection, during the establishmentof a business. Businesses in the foundation stage determine issues such as capacity, production method, buthave the opportunity to change according to business's future decisions within certain limits. If facilitylocation chosen by the business is not the most appropriate establishment place, change of the selectedlocation later either is impossible or is required a huge cost. Facility location selection affects productionmanagement activities such as, production planning and control, process design, workplace regulations,inventory control, capacity planning and supply chain management. In this respect, product managementactivities are affected by facility location selection directly. Due to decisions about location selection,business will force to work under certain conditions a quite long time. Decision on the facility locationaffect directly the profitability and production costs, so It will effective significantly presence of business,success and continuity (Üçüncü, 2003). İf facility location selected wrongly is not changed, it is impossibleto reach efficiency and effectiveness desired by the business. Efficient factors for facility place selectiongenerally are markets, sources of raw materials, transportation and transport facilities, workforce, energyand fuel, promoting opportunities, socio-cultural environment, close to sub-industry, ate proximity, existing investments, financial institutions, education, and research institutions (Üçüncü, 2006; Korkut vd., 2010,Kobu, 2006).In this study, It is aimed to determining the factors that can be brought to the fore as a place ofestablishment of the province of Kastamonu and ranking according to their severity. For this purpose, itwas determined 8 different criteria and analyzed via AHP; a multi criteria decision making tool. After dualcomparisions, the strongest criaterias at facility location selection are to be close to the raw materials andmarkets and transportation facilities.Key Words: Facility location selection, Forest industry, AHP
