The sampling of the study consists offirst, second, third and fourth year students from the departments of socialstudies, elementary school mathematics and science teacher education of theeducational faculty of a university. Totally 458 students participated in thestudy. Within the context of the validity studies of the scale, contentvalidity and construct validity were analyzed. For the construct validity, exploratory factor analysis (EFA) was run and in order to test the accuracy ofthe obtained factor structure, confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was employed. The results of EFA revealed that the 31 items of the scale can be subsumedunder three factors. These three factors can explain 56.15% of the totalvariance and their factor loadings vary between 0.50 and 0.73. When the fitindices obtained as a result of CFA are examined, it is seen that χ2/sd = 2.76,RMSEA = 0.06, SRMR =0.04, GFI =0.86, AGFI = 0.83, CFI =0.98 and NNFI =0.98.Item total correlation coefficients in relation to the reliability of the scalewere analyzed and Cronbach Alpha internal consistency coefficient wascalculated. The item-total correlation coefficients of the scale were found tobe ranging from 0.51 to 0.79. For the whole of the scale items, Cronbach Alphainternal consistency coefficient was calculated to be 0.96. In light of thesevalues, the scale of interest in astronomy can be argued to be valid andreliable. CR - Adams, J. P., & Slater, T. F. (2000). Astronomy in the national science education.
