N2  - In particular, the prevalence of largeregional disparities in unemployment rates stems from longstanding regionaldevelopment disparities within a country. Turkeystruggles against two major regional economic problems: regional developmentdisparities, which is a major issue, and regional inequalities in unemployment.In Turkey, regional development differences and regional disparities inunemployment rates are fairly large and persistent. By using a spatial paneldata technique, this paper analyzes the determinants of Turkish regionalunemployment disparities for the period from 2008 to 2012 and whether thespatial interaction exists among Turkish regions. The findings show that asignificant relationship is found among the regional unemployment rate and malelabor force participation rate, the share of young population, and the share ofagriculture in employment and educational attainment. In addition, a positivespatial correlation is found amongthe regional distribution of unemployment rates.
