The aim of this legislation is to provide work health and safety in workplaces and to regulate duties and powers, responsibility, rights and liabilities of employers and employees. Thirty-nine regulations and 18 notifications have been put into practice to determine the details in application of the legislation in field. Recent Work Health and Safety legislation concerns 20,000 employers/employer representatives and 100,000 employers in the Turkish Furniture Industry. Preparations regarding applications of work health and safety legislation in a given work place by employers, employer representatives (including OSH professionals) and employees will help avoid legal problems, law fines, and compensations. The objective of this study is to evaluate recent OSH legislation in the furniture industry and thus, to table the preparations to be done technically by employers/employer representatives in the industry by control lists. For this purpose, 39 regulations in OSH legislation have been examined and among these regulations, 21 complying with the furniture industry have been considered. Checklists containing a total of 220 questions have been created under 12 main headings with regard to points in the relevant regulations. In this context, in the article, numerous titles such as work equipment, workplace and its extensions, use of chemicals, personal protective equipment, hand-lifting and carrying, work with screen-installed devices, work stations and ergonomics, groups requiring special policy etc. are discussed. Control lists in such issues provide several benefits such as systematic approach to problems, collecting important data, not overlook incompleteness. By answering positively around 220 questions by OSH professionals which are understandable, easy-to-answer, fast-assessable and provide guidance, work safety performance will rise in the furniture industry covering mostly small and medium size plants. Fulfilling the commitments of recent OSH legislation bringing a proactive approach to work health and safety will help decrease accidents in work places, lessen occupational diseases, and increase the success rate in application of protective control measures to decrease risks.
