For this purpose, atotal of 40 Akkaraman male lambs (age: 4 months, body weight: 21 kg) were used.Experimental rations were prepared as isonitrogenous and isoenergetic and, thealfalfa form using in rations were composed the experimental groups: wheatstraw- Control group (K), fresh alfalfa group (TY), ensiled alfalfa group (SY)and dried alfalfa group (KY). The animal experiment was maintained for 108 daysas 10 days of adaptation and 98 days of sampling. The lambs’ blood samples weretaken from the jugular vein and MDA, GSH, Cu levels and KAT, GSH-Px activitieswere measured. In the trial, it was shown that the lowest levels of MDA and Cu inplasma were in dried alfalfa while the highest levels were in fresh alfalfa(P<0.05). Erythrocyte CAT activity was higher in fresh and ensiled alfalfawhile it was lower in control group and dried alfalfa (P<0.05). Differencesin levels of whole blood GSH-Px and GSH were not significant among thetreatments (P>0.05).In conclusion, high levels of plasma MDA in animals fed with freshalfalfa may be due to the prooxidant effect of Cu at high level.
