N2  - This article underlines the need to treat music, which is an active form of expression, also as a cultural object, and to grasp the actual essence, that is to say the intellectual and emotional content, of music as a work of art, beyond its physical understanding. In the history of Turkish music, various sound systems and theories have been applied to the creation, teaching and performance of traditional music, in particular, without paying attention to the intellectual and emotional content of this music, its unity in diversity and the medium of the culture in which the music has emerged. This study examines the “new composition” that emerges during performance, in the context of factors that create differences between the musical score and its performance, such as basic structural elements like rhythm, tone and melody, which constitute unity in diversity, the relationship between form and essence, music as a form of art, differences in methods of notation, teaching and transfer, structure of the melodic mode, idiosyncratic styles, manners and ways of performance, effects of inspiration, composition, sociocultural conditions, and linguistic and prosodic changes on lyrical works, in particular, and metrics of the Turkish language, among others.
