Race, age, gender and family history of cardiovascular disease are nonmodifiable risks factors. The majority of known risk factors for these diseases are modifiable by risk factors as hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidaemia, smoking and alcohol use and obesity. Preventive measures as healthy diet, regular physical activity, effective stress management, non-use smoking and alcohol, hygienic measures and take responsibility for their own health are defined as healthy lifestyle may reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. In these direction health professionals especially nurses have an important role about control of preventable risk factors. Risk factors for cardiovascular disease, roles of the nurse about risk factors preventive strategies to gain and maintain healthy life-style behaviors were examined in this review article. </span> </p>}, number={4}, publisher={Oğuz KARABAY}
