However, there is also a need toanalyze the effect of both domestic and foreign environmental conditions onexport performance of companies. In this study, contingency approach isutilized and two variables are determined to measure the effect of domesticmarket characteristics on exporting companies: export assistance programs andenvironmental hostility. Moreover, the moderating effect of institutionalquality on these relationships is also investigated throughout the study. Inthe study an online questionnaire is utilized and the data is collected fromexporting SMEs in the Netherlands and Turkey, which differ extensively fromeach other in terms of the institutional quality index. The data collectionprocess delivered 325 usable surveys and at the end of an OLS RegressionAnalysis, the importance of the export assistance programs on exportperformance is confirmed. Moreover, the positive effect of environmentalhostility on exports is found to be strengthened by the institutional quality. CR - Astarlıoğlu, M.
