The aim of this study is to calculate the survival rate of the patients who are treated with hemodialysis in Ege University Hospital in order to let the health workers especially the medical doctors to evaluate the care given. 26 patients who were treated with hemodialysis in Ege University Hospital at november 1998 were assessed retrospectively for the survival at january 2003. The sociodemographic properties, laboratory results of those patients were examined and their quality of life was measured by Karnovsky and the visual analogue scale. The survival analysis was carried out by the Kaplan–Meier method. in 1998 the mean age (range) of the patients was 46.1 ±13.6 (min 21- max 69). 46.1 % were graduated by the high school and higher. 57.7 % were men. Karnovsky score was found 87.7 ±12.8. The mean score of the visual analogue scale was 67.1 ±13.1. The mean survival of the patients was 158 months. The survival of hemodialysis patients was 100 % at one-year and at 2-years, 96 % at 3-years and 4-years, 92 % at 5-years, 6-years and 7-years, 86 % at 8-years, 9- years and 10-years, 75 % at 11-years, 12-years and 13-years and 63 % at 14-years. Although patients characteristics that had significant impacts on survival were not so different, EÜTF patients on dialysis have higher survival compared to the other hemodialysis patients in US and Europe. In conclusion, we can say high qualified hemodialysis care has been given at Ege University.}, number={3}, publisher={Ege Üniversitesi}
