Although it is possible to assert the existence of foundations in Pre-Islamic era, they essentially rise as an institutional entity in the Arabic civilisation that embraced Islam. They become common also in Turkish world after Turks embraced Islam. The foundations and services they provide experienced the golden age after Islam spread to wide geographies and foundation culture developed within Turkish-Islamic synthesis. Throughout the centuries, they have maintained facilities that empower social solidarity such as sheltering, education and health services, that meet the social needs and that affect the economy directly or indirectly. Moreover, they have penetrated into political and social ground from state administration to urbanisation. Most of social services that are conducted by the foundations previously have turned into public service after social welfare state understanding dominated in 20th century. In this study, foundations in the Ottoman era and their services with content and reflections in social life are analysed. </span> </i> </p>}, number={7}, publisher={Salih YILDIZ}
