It is important that Adam Smith’s thoughts, especially his perspective of growth, should be reviewed by considering that the fact that ideological aspects of the economics have strong influence in today’s world. The pessimistic point of Smith’s thoughts on growth is derived from the fact that he does not give necessary importance to the technological development. As a result, his solution depends on the “stability” of the economic growth –as the industrial capitalism was still in the development period-. Today, although the technological developments make important contributions to growth, especially the rise of financial capitalism has led to the weakening of the capital as an economic factor for production. As a result, in the line with the aim of financial profitability, it has been transformed into an economic structure which has little contribution to economic growth and causes constant crises. Although it is very different from the Smith’s time, the economic growth constantly erodes with crises and the sectors of growth reshape.
