These changes in curriculum have brought in a new understanding about the process of assessment and evaluation. The techniques called as alternative evaluation techniques emphasize the process rather than just focusing on the student achievement, which is different from the traditional techniques. In the research, performance tasks, which are one of the alternative assessment and evaluation techniques and focus on the evaluation of both process and the product at the same time, was investigated. The purpose of this study is to determine variables that influence students' attitudes towards performance tasks. As the data collection tools, Personal Information Questionnaire and Attitude Scale towards the Performance Tasks in Science Course, which were developed by Kumandaş (2008), were used in the study. The data about the students’ personal information, the process they followed during the performance tasks and what opportunities they had were gathered thorough the questionnaire. The research was designed in accordance with the relational screening model. The participants of the study consisted of 147 seventh graders in Tokat Province in 2013-2014 academic year. As a result of the study, the job of the mother, gender, the habit of watching TV, using internet or textbooks as the resource variables were determined to be effective in the students’ attitudes towards performance tasks in science course. Moreover, it was also determined that it is the science course where the students enjoy conducting performance tasks most.
