Depending onthis addiction to social media, individuals tend to use social networks inorder to get news and much of the daily information. The main of the study isto identify the effects on news monitoring motivations through social networksof people’s addiction to social media. While dealing the problematic of thisresearch, the survey has been applied to 349 students, on the scale of IstanbulAydin University, with the simple random sampling method through theface-to-face questionnaire. The data of the survey have been analyzed in termsof motivation statements about news monitoring on social media and alsofrequency tables such as social media using habits, social networks used,frequency of news monitoring and sharing, news sources and news issues anddemographics. With regard to the result of the study, it is proved that“information seeking” firstly comes as the basic factor among the motivationfactors and other factors are respectively arranged as entertaining,socializing and status seeking.
