N2  - According to Wallerstein, the tripartite division between the natural sciences, the social sciences, and the humanities is no longer as self-evident as it once seemed. Therefore, some of the original epistemological debates which is now thought to have been left in the past arise again. But this time these debates are not purely theoretical discussions. When epistemologists begin to resolve the epistemological debates, they are in need of deciding what to do organizationally. For Wallerstein, the most immediate question is related to the organizational structure of the social sciences themselves. What is more, ‘interdisciplinarity’ is not an answer to this question. The most significant consequence of this epistemological debate has been the call for social science that is based on the concept of multipleparadigm’. The question that comes to the light under this concept is how to take seriously a plurality of paradigms in social science without losing the main idea of the science. On the other hand, a multi-paradigmatic science will only thrive if it is legitimated as much it is legitimated as organizationally. The limitedness of the positivist approach is an obstacle to answering this kind of questions. As for the epistemological postmodern scepticism, it sometimes leads to an antagonism of theory which condemns the other perspectives equally critical of the limitedness of the positivist approach. The solution seems to involve arguing the concept of multiple-paradigm within the existing theories of knowledge while simultaneously establishing new avenues for dialogue and exchange between and beyond the existing theories. Popperian approach is one of these theories, and this article’s aim is to analyse it on the base of Wallerstein’s idea that the social sciences should embrace a very wide opening to research and teach on all paradigms in the search for renewed, expanded, and meaningful pluralistic universalism.
