This war was a catastrophe for the Ottoman Empire as much as for Europe with large-scale human deaths. In fact, it was a life and death struggle. However, this struggle of the Ottoman Empire for survival had started with the great land losses and atrocities against Muslims in Rumelia after the Ottoman- Russian War of 1877-1878 and continued until the World War I. One of the places where this struggle was experienced and the Muslims were persecuted was Macedonia. One of the nations who inflicted that persecution were the Greeks.
