N2  - Women have important roles and responsibilities in the development of societies. In this respect the traditional and changing women roles, the increase in women employment in all areas of the society put womens education in an important position. In this study, by examining the historical development process of womens education in Turkey the current situation was tried to be determined.  The study is a qualitative one with descriptive quality that depends on document analysis. The data of the study was obtained via the related literature and statistical data of Turkish Statistical Institute and Ministry of National Education.   In the study it was found that; female population in Turkey has gained social, economic, cultural and educational attainment rights after the announcement of the Republic, but these improvements are not sufficient as the literacy rate is quite low, whereas with the investments in education and government regulations now the ratio showed a large increase, it was determined that the literacy rates fall behind the western developed countries and world rankings.
