The research is a qualitative research using scanning method. 55 students participated in this research from the “a” primary school in province İzmir. The data gathered is analyzed and interpreted with the method of content analysis. When the metaphors used by 8th grade secondary school students for the unit of “The structure of the substance and its features” in science and technology were examined at the end of the research, according to the results of the students who participated in the research; Nine metaphors for “atom” concept; eleven metaphor for “layer”; fourteen metaphors for “electron” were written. The “globe” metaphor was commonly used for atom, layer, and electron. Eight metaphors for “ionic bond”; five metaphors for “covalent bond” were used.
