Operation of an existing cogeneration system is described in detail and a methodology based on exergoeconomic relations and SPECO method is provided to allocate cost flows through subcomponents of the plant. Biogas is produced in the wastewater treatment plant, which remains within the boundaries of the same campus with cogeneration facility. For each 1 kW electricity produced, 0.387 m3 of biogas is consumed in the cogeneration plant. The exergetic efficiency of cogeneration plant is found to be 26.6%, which indicates that 73.4% of the total exergy input to the plant, mainly by biogas, is destroyed.
