N2  - In this article examined the role of folklore and folklore studies to build the identity in context of folklore and cultural identity relationship in Turkmenistan. As a result of the determination and evaluation the following conclusions were reached that identity work started Tsarist era in Turkmenistan, in the period of the Soviet Union has been recognized as a vehicle making the dominant Soviet identity in Turkmenistan, in the period of the post-independence the creation of new Turkmen identity needed the folklore.
