In order to assess the efficacy and safety of mediastinoscopy, we reviewed our three years experience. We performed mediastinoscopic interventions in 33 patients between 2005 and 2008 for the diagnosis of mediastinal diseases and the staging of lung cancer. There were 25 male and 8 female patients and the mean age was 55,75±14,11 (22-82). Mediastinoscopy was performed for the diagnosis in 19 patients (57,6%) and for lung cancer staging in 14 patients (42,4%). The results in the cases who were performed mediastinoscopy for purpose of the diagnosis were reactive lymphadenitis (n=10), granulomatosis lypmhadenopathy (n=6), metastasis of carsinoma (n=2), lymphoma (n=1). Lymph node metastasis was determined in six cases of the patients who underwent mediastinoscopy for lung cancer staging. Pneumothorax in one case was seen. There was no mortalitiy in this study. Mediastinoscopy, with its low morbidity rate, is efficacy and safety method for lung cancer staging and diagnosis of other mediastinal pathologies.}, number={2}, publisher={Osman Nuri DİLEK}
