Out of 2877 patients hospitalized between 1996 and 2008, medical charts of 206 patients with the diagnosis of drug reactions were retrospectively analyzed. Some parameters such as demographic characteristics, type of the reaction, suspicious drug groups caused the reaction, presence of multiple drug usage, time period between the onset of the drug intake and initiation of the eruption were recorded. There were 105 female and 101 male patients with an age average of 46.29± 17.3 (4-85 yrs). The most common type of drug reactions were urticaria and angioedema (20.9 %) followed by isolated angioedema (13.6 %) and maculopapular drug eruption (10.2 %). Drug combinations were seen in 53 (%25.7) cases, the combination of NSAID/ASA and antibiotics or cardiac drugs (especially ACE inhibitors) ranked first. Also, it was detected that NSAID, ASA, penicilline and/or cephalosporins, anti-epileptics, cardiac drugs and the other antibiotics acted as the cause of drug reactions when they were used alone. Time period between the onset of the eruption and the intake of the drug varied by hours to months. We conclude that combination of drugs including NSAID/ASA should be avoided if possible, a careful follow-up should be made on antibiotics, ACE inhibitors and anti-epileptics and re-consideration of the drugs which have been used for a long time should be assessed.}, number={3}, publisher={Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi}
