N2  - Benzalkonium chloride is a chemical compound belonging to the quaternary ammonium group that is used as a skin antiseptic or spray disinfectant for surface sanitisation. It has bactericidal action against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Here we report two newborn cases in whom a chemical burn injury occurred in the genital region due to local application of benzalkonium chloride (zefiran™) prepared in an inappropriate concentration for the purpose of antisepsis before placing a collecting urinary bag.
