It has been indicated that birch leaves are obtained from Betula pendula Roth. in European Pharmacopoeia. Morphological structure and anatomical characteristics of cross and surfacesection of the leaves of Betula pendula Roth. (Birch; Betulaceae) were investigated. Microscopic analyses were conducted on the powdered leaves of the plant and the microphotographs were taken thereof. Samples provided from herbalists were compared with the standard sample. B. pendula leaves were determined to be rarely found in herbalists and Carpinus species were detected to be usually sold instead of B. pendula.
