N2 - Since the 1990s, consumer credit users in the Turkey have increased dramatically. Nowadays, consumer credits have been becoming a fundamental financial sourse for households. An increase in consumer credits naturally results as an increase default risk. So that, default andpersonal bankruptcy began to increase sharply after 2000; and this phenomenon has become a serious issue for banks and consumer credit users in Turkey. The objective of this study is to determine the risk profile of consumer credit users in terms of demographic factors.In this study, we examined whether there is a relationship between default in consumer credits and gender, occupations, household ownership, age and marital status. Data collection has been realized by interview with branch managers of 5 banks in Bilecik. Our findings indicated that while there is no relationship between default in consumer credits and gender, statistically significant relationship has been found between default in consumer credits and occupations, household ownership, age and marital status.
