N2  - This article aims to analyze the problems that NATO, as a multi-national defense organization could face in adapting public diplomacy strategies usually seen within the domain of nationstates to its targets and organizational structure. In this framework, the emphasis will be given to the public diplomacy strategies and activities specifically targeting the publics of the Alliance’s member states and external publics which can be defined as NATO’s two new centers of gravity. The study will also discuss the use of smart power based on civil-military cooperation within the framework of the comprehensive approach to crisis management which is one of the important elements of NATO’s new strategic concept. Conclusion part evaluates the role of public diplomacy in consolidating NATO’s new image emerging within the process of its strategic transformation
